Welcome to MadaPlus TRAVEL

Extend your Madagascar trip

Add beach days on Nosy Be, island experiences on Sainte Marie or an adventurous drive along the west coast to your tour. We plan your extension to suit your route, your wishes and the season.

Our overview map shows where the three extensions are located.

Nosy Be

A few days by the sea after your tour: Nosy Be lies off the northwest coast of Madagascar and offers beaches, small offshore islands and tropical nature. Enjoy quiet days in a beach lodge and explore the archipelago on boat trips.

Possible excursions and experiences

You decide how to spend your days. We combine selected excursions with plenty of time to relax.

Possible accommodation

You choose your accommodation according to your wishes, for example the Loharano Lodge, L’Heure Bleue, the Ravintsara Wellness Hôtel or Home The Residence. We check availability and are happy to advise you.

Length of stay and best time to travel

We recommend 4–6 nights. As a guide, April to December is the best time; January to March is the rainy season with an increased risk of cyclones.

Getting there and connections

You can reach Nosy Be on a domestic flight from Antananarivo. Depending on the flight schedule, you return via Antananarivo or take an international flight home from Nosy Be via Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). For a return via Antananarivo, we plan in a time buffer.

Your personal offer

We tailor the length of stay, your accommodation and the excursions you want to your tour. All agreed services are set out in your personal offer.

Adventure along the west coast

Between Morondava and Tuléar you experience Madagascar away from the classic routes: Vezo fishing villages, sailing pirogues on the beach, baobab forests and lagoons. Long stretches of the route follow sandy tracks and cross rivers. Long driving days and changing track conditions are part of this journey.

With a private 4×4 and an experienced driver who knows the coast, you travel from north to south or in the opposite direction.

Possible experiences along the route

Possible accommodation

The accommodation is part of the route, for example the Ecolodge du Menabe in Belo sur Mer, Kanto Annexe in Manja, Chez Katia in Morombe, the Olô Bé Lodge near Andavadoaka, the Ankasy Lodge in Tsiandamba and Les Dunes d’Ifaty. We adapt stages and overnight stops to the route, track conditions and availability.

Length of stay and best time to travel

This extension takes at least 6 days. We plan the total duration with you, including the outward and return journey and any extra nights.

The route is intended for the dry season, roughly from May to early November. Whether it can be done depends on the current track and river conditions. Stages and overnight stops can be adjusted accordingly.

Getting there and connections

The extension can follow the West tour, which ends in Morondava, or the Southwest tour, which ends in Ifaty.

Comfort and character of the trip

This extension is for travellers who enjoy being on the road and are flexible about driving times and comfort. Accommodation ranges from simple guesthouses to more comfortable beach lodges. We discuss the choice with you in advance.

Your personal offer

We agree the stages, the accommodation and the link to your tour individually with you. All agreed services are set out in your personal offer.

Sainte Marie

Sainte Marie is a long, narrow island off the east coast of Madagascar. Quiet bays, palm-fringed beaches and small fishing villages invite you to slow down after your tour. From July to September, humpback whales can often be seen here.

Possible excursions and experiences

Whether you want to explore the island actively or mainly relax by the sea, we put together the excursions with you according to your interests.

Possible accommodation

You choose your accommodation according to your wishes, for example the Natiora Green Lodge or the Princesse Bora Lodge. We check availability and are happy to advise you.

Length of stay and best time to travel

We recommend 4–5 nights. June to November is a good time to travel; for whale watching, especially July to September. On the east coast, showers are possible in any season.

Getting there and connections

Sainte Marie combines particularly well with our East and Highlands tour or our West tour. The outward and return journey is usually a domestic flight via Antananarivo. As flights can be rescheduled because of the weather, we plan at least one night in Antananarivo before your international flight home. Depending on the connection, a longer buffer may be sensible.

Boat crossings from the mainland depend on the weather and are not part of our standard programme.

Your personal offer

We tailor the length of stay, your accommodation and the excursions you want to your tour. All agreed services are set out in your personal offer.
